As summer is upon us and the possibilities of the lockdown easing more and more we wanted to give you an update on what plans Honto Judo has for a safe return to training. At the moment Welsh Judo is in the RED phase of the return protocols (traffic light system). This means that Organised outdoor activity of up to 30 people can resume. https://welshjudo.com/resources/covid-19-resources/

We have been trialing some sessions over the last few weeks in order to see what we can achieve in a safe environment. These sessions have been going well with good feedback so we are confident to take the next step

Going forward we will be looking to put on Non-Contact outdoor (strength & fitness) technical sessions starting in August. We are usually closed over the summer for the Junior classes so these sessions will be restricted to our senior members only for now. We plan to start on Thursdays 7:30pm for about an hour, meeting at the dojo parking and moving to green spaces around the area to do our training

To make sure that we are following the safeguards that our governing body and the government have put in place, we will require that the following procedures be followed to keep us all safe and training:

  1. Please fill out the BJA Athlete Indemnity Form and email to info@hontojudo.com before you attend each session. This will enable us to track & trace should there be an outbreak and to conform with the guidelines set out by the sports governing body

  2. Make sure that your Licence is up to date and valid to comply with insurance purposes

  3. Keep to the governments social distancing & hygiene advice https://gov.wales/coronavirus-social-distancing-guidance. Hand washing and at least a 2m distance is mandatory

  4. Bring your own training equipment if needed (to include but not restricted: towel, small weight, uchikomi bands, old judogi jacket, basic first aid)

  5. We will have hand sanitising gel at the location but it would be beneficial for you to bring your own, we will also have a first aid kit on site with qualified first aiders

  6. All equipment will be cleaned after each session and quarantined for a week until the next session. We would also advise you to clean any equipment you bring

We will attempt to keep these sessions going until we are allowed to return to indoor training (weather dependant) under the AMBER phase and we are currently putting together a strategy for returning to the dojo.

We will endeavour to keep you updated as things change and we hope to get back to regular judo when circumstances allow.

Thank you all for you continued support and encouragement through these difficult times.

Keep safe and hope to see you back at Judo soon
